END MARKS and COMMA'S
declarative sentence makes a statement or expresses an opinion and ends with a period ( . ).
imperative sentence gives direction, makes a request, or gives a command. It ends with a period ( . ) or exclamation point ( ! ).
interrogative sentence asks a question and ends with a question mark ( ? ).
exclamatory sentence expresses a strong feeling or emotion and ends with a exclamation point ( ! ).
comma's are used to separate items and to enclose items

adjective is a word that modifys a noun or a pronoun.
adverb modifys a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
noun is a "person", "place", "thing", or an "idea".

These boots belong to Stacy "these" is talking about "boots"
Thirty people attended the meeting "thirty" is telling how many "people"

ENGLISH LITERARY TERMS
These are words that you should probably know for an English class.

formal essay this type of composition offers an OPINION on a particular subject and is written in a serious and highly-organized manner

express an opinion,

diary, memoir, journal three types of shorter autobiographical narratives.

biography the story of a persons life, written by another person.

true-life adventure accounts of actual heroic deeds or exciting adventures.

autobiography the story of a persons life written by that person.

informal essay this type of composition offers an OPINION on a particular subject and is written in a more personal manner and is less rigidly structured.

nonfiction writing that deals with real people, places, facts, and events: writing that IS true

essay
this type of composition offers an OPINION on a particular subject. First person point of view is often used.

fiction anything made up or imagined: writing that is NOT true

Exposition fancy word for the beginning of the story- where the author "sets the stage"- in this part, the situation of the characters in the story is explained and it leads up to the further development of the plot- the point of view and the setting (the where and the when) is also explained

Rising Action the series of action, or complications, that sets up the conflict for the main character of the story- in this part of the story tension builds, and the story works its way up to the climax

Climax the high point in the story - the turning point where the conflict comes to a head and is decided for one side or the other- usually the most exciting point in the story

Falling Action events that happen after the climax - usually wrap up the story and lead to the conclusion- sometimes the falling action is almost non-existent because the conclusion occurs immediately after the climax

Resolution the point of closure- also called the conclusion or denoument- when the conflict is worked out- the end
